Energy markets shape the cost of living, the pace of industrial activity, and the trajectory of the climate transition. They influence what you pay for heat in winter and air conditioning in summer; whether a steel mill in your region stays open; how quickly the European continent reduces its carbon emissions. And yet, for most people, energy remains a closed world of jargon and complexity — a domain of acronyms, pricing curves, grid frequencies, and contracts that sound like they belong in a finance textbook.

We think that needs to change. In the Discover Energy series, we try to open the door. From how the grid transfers electrical energy from generators to your light switch, to the geopolitics of liquefied natural gas shipments arriving in Rotterdam, we explore the questions that we find genuinely interesting — clearly, accurately, and without the usual mystique. The series is written for the curious reader, not the energy professional. Although, frankly, we hope the professionals will enjoy it too.
